Rev. James E. Dorner IIPastor
Pastor Dorner was born and raised in a Cleveland Ohio. Challenged by a dedicated and beloved high school teacher to study the Bible, Pastor found an immediate love for studying the scriptures and how it shows Gods love. Upon graduating from the Lay Ministry program at Concordia University-Wisconsin, Pastor spent 11 years in ministry in Dix Hills, NY on Long Island where he met his wife, Chelsea, a graduate of St. Rose who fell in love with Albany. Feeling the call to full time ministry Pastor Dorner left Long Island to attend Concordia Seminary St. Louis. Drawing on his love of New York and his wife’s connections to Albany he excitedly arrived at St. Paul’s at the beginning of a time for transition – a changing neighborhood, an aging building, two churches in need of a Pastor, followed by a global pandemic. He is excited to see the future of both St. Paul’s and St. Matthew as we move forward to a new beginning in our new location across from Stuyvesant Plaza in Guilderland.
An avid Cleveland Browns fan and part time home brewer, Pastor Dorner lives in Guilderland with his wife, Chelsea, who is a music teacher in the Albany School district, and three young children.
James is one of our deacons. Raised in a Roman Catholic household, James was introduced to the faith by an uncle. Upon exploring the Bible James fell in love with the rich biblical heritage of the Lutheran Church and began studying to become a deacon. James works in the information technology industry and lives in Rensselaer County with his wife and two young sons.
A landscape designer by trade, Ed is a longtime member of St. Matthew’s and served diligently to insure worship during their pastoral vacancy. Ed lives in Delmar with his wife.
